Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa will host a weekend of charity to raise money for Roots & Wings
MORRISTOWN, NJ—Stressed out and cash-strapped, many people are looking for ways to stretch their dollars further. Alain Goulet, owner of Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa in Morristown, is offering the community a way to calm frazzled nerves and sore muscles while feeling good about doing good. During the weekend of September 24 and 25, Hand & Stone will donate 15% of ALL sales from both retail and services to Roots & Wings. A Morris-county based non-profit, Roots & Wings provides young adults who age out of the foster care system in New Jersey with safe housing, educational support, counseling, and life skills in order to empower them toward self-sufficiency.
Before coming to Roots & Wings, 50% of these young people were homeless, 25% lacked a diploma, 58% had significant debt, 75% had mental health diagnoses, and 50% were unemployed. Through intensive case management—and hard work on the part of these young people—Roots & Wings provides a foundation for this high-risk population of disadvantaged young adults on which they can build—replacing dependency with self-sufficiency. Upon exiting the program, 100% left with a place to live, 100% had earned a GED, 93% showed marked improvement in mental health, and 75% significantly decreased their debt.
This is the time to buy gift certificates and start your holiday shopping early, book an extra service for yourself or a loved one (or treat yourself for the first time!), or stock up on retail products, knowing you’re helping provide these youth with the tools they need to succeed. Giving a gift certificate and letting the recipient know some of the funds are supporting these young adults will make that person feel good, too! A limited number of appointments are available, so book early for the most flexibility in selecting your preferred time.
“Roots & Wings is funded almost entirely by private support, including individual gifts and contributions, grants from private foundations, and income from special events like Hand & Stone Spa’s fundraising weekend for Roots & Wings,” explained Kim Spangenberg, executive director for Roots & Wings. “This event offers an excellent opportunity to support an organization that focuses on a proactive approach to supporting the youth who come out of care, while enjoying the benefits of a first-class spa experience at the hands of Alain’s skilled staff.”
