TGA Premier Junior Golf, the largest junior golf initiative in Morris and Essex Counties, announces the first-ever TGA Golf-A-Thon, which will take place on September 11, 2011, at Twin Willows Par 3 Golf Course in Lincoln Park, New Jersey. This community event will allow junior golfers from all over New Jersey to raise money for Roots & Wings.
The TGA Golf-A-Thon, one of the most unique golf fundraising events for charity, will generate proceeds that will benefit Roots & Wings in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey. The organization provides nurturing support, safe housing, educational support and practical life skills to young adults who have aged out of New Jersey’s child welfare system.
The TGA Golf-A-Thon event is open to kids 18 and under, each of whom, along with his or her team, will play 100 holes of golf in one day. Each participating golfer is asked to raise $1,000.00 in pledges by asking people for a donation of $10 per hole. The goal of the event is to raise $40,000. The TGA Foundation, which benefits under-resourced schools, will also receive a percentage of the total.
Golfing 100 holes in a day may seem difficult, but the unique TGA format allows for each golfer to tee-off and play a minimum of three balls per hole in his or her own individual scramble. By physically walking 36holes with three or more balls on each hole, golfers will play 100 holes quickly, easily and while having a lot of fun! Players can also recruit their own caddies for the day to help them find balls, rake sand traps, and maybe even play a few holes for their golfers. In addition, golfers are encouraged to gather their own “sponsorship teams” who will support them and help them raise money.
“Roots & Wings has a major impact on young adults in our area, and to be able to support Roots & Wings as they guide these youth in their transitions into the next phase of their lives is very gratifying,” said Michael Riccardi of TGA Premier Junior Golf. “With the decreases in funding due to the current economic state, we jumped at the opportunity to help a great program continue doing what they do.”
